For parties, Nigerian coleslaw is served as a side dish to any party. It goes hand in hand with our very own jollof rice, fried rice or even Chinese rice. It can also be served as a dish on its own with a chunk of fried chicken by its side.

Tips:
• Wash ingredients in warm salty water before shredding.

Ingredients for a perfect coleslaw (serves 8)

  • 1 head of green cabbage
  • 2 large carrots finely shredded
  • 4 heaped tbsp of mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp of sour cream (salad cream)
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 small lime juiced
  • 1 green pepper
  • Pepper to taste (optional)

How to Make Nigerian Coleslaw

  1. Scrape off the outer skin of the carrot with a potato peeler or knife, wash and set it aside
  2. Finely shred the cabbage and carrots
  3. Chop the onion and green pepper
  4. Mix together the cabbage, carrot, onions, and peppers in a clean bowl
  5. In another clean bowl, pour in the mayonnaise, cream, and sugar. Whisk for a while then pour in the lime and a dash of pepper; combine well
  6. Pour in the garnishes from step 5 into the main ingredient in step 4
  7. Cover the bowl with foil and chill until ready to serve
  8. You're finished.
