I decided to write about sugar syrup today because I realized that there are some simple basic things that we deny ourselves for lack of knowledge. Sugar syrup can be used in our cocktail drinks, smoothie, drizzled over some home- made snacks like pancakes, masa (hausa pancakes) and many more. The mere inclusion of the syrup into our food changes the ordinary to extraordinary.
And the recipe? Easy as ABC or should I say, easy as spelling your name.
I got inspired to make this simple syrup today because I made masa (rice cakes) with a little addition of cassava flour and it had no sugar. So my simple syrup came in handy.
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
How to make sugar syrup
This simple method takes less than 5 minutes to make. It is of essence to allow the water to heat up before pouring in the sugar or else it takes longer to process
So, let’s get started…
- Heat the water in a small saucepan over medium low heat until hot but not boiling
- Stir in the sugar , continue stirring until it dissolves
- Then its done
- Allow to cool and store in a jar
- It can keep in the frigde for up to 3 weeks
